Why We're Becoming Beside Leaders Global

Names matter.

They hold the story of who we are, what we believe and the work we are here to do.

But sometimes, the work grows beyond the name that first carried it.

That has happened to us more than once.

It began with UQ Power

UQ Power was the beginning.

It represented the belief that leadership is not simply about intellectual intelligence, qualifications or technical expertise. There is another kind of intelligence at work - the deeply human ability to understand ourselves, read the room, communicate meaningfully and bring out the best in others.

UQ Power gave us a place to begin exploring that.

It carried us through years of coaching, leadership development, culture work and conversations with thousands of people across corporate, government and community organisations.

But over time, the work became more personal.

From UQ Power to Alexandra Joy

The move to Alexandra Joy reflected my willingness to step out from behind a business name and put my own name, voice and lived experience at the centre of the work.

It was a season of becoming more visible.

It allowed me to bring together parts of myself that had once seemed separate: the corporate adviser and the bush philosopher; the strategist and storyteller; the researcher and intuitive; the person who understood the boardroom and the person who found wisdom sitting quietly on Country.

The work was no longer only about what I knew.

It was about how I walked beside people.

And that is where the next evolution began.

Why Beside Leaders?

After more than 25 years working with leaders, I have become increasingly clear about what meaningful transformation requires.

CEOs and executive teams do not need another expert standing above them, handing down answers.

They do not need another consultant standing outside the system, observing from a safe distance.

They need someone prepared to stand beside them.

Beside them when the decisions are difficult.

Beside them when growth begins to expose the cracks in the culture.

Beside them when the leadership team is no longer working as one.

Beside them when they know something needs to change, but cannot yet see the pattern from inside it.

And beside them long enough for the change to become real.

That is the heart of our new name:

Not above. Not outside. Beside.

Why Beside Leaders Global?

Beside Leaders Global is bigger than a personal brand, but it is not about becoming a large, impersonal consultancy.

It reflects the truth that this work has never belonged to one person.

Michael and I now work in partnership—my creative, fast-moving Lyrebird energy at the front end, alongside his slow, steady and meticulous Wombat energy building the structures that support the work.

We are also surrounded by clients, collaborators, facilitators, Elders, knowledge holders and emerging practitioners who bring their own wisdom to this evolving body of work.

And while our feet are firmly planted here in the Wollombi Valley, the leadership challenges we address are not confined by geography.

Around the world, leaders are confronting the same questions:

How do we grow without losing what matters?

How do we create accountability without controlling everything?

How do we prepare our people for the future without burning them out?

How do we build organisations that are not only successful, but regenerative—organisations that leave their people, communities and the planet stronger?

“Global” reflects the reach and relevance of those questions. It speaks to the ecosystem we are building and the contribution we want to make beyond ourselves.

This Is More Than a Rebrand

Beside Leaders Global is not a new coat of paint over the same business.

It is a clearer declaration of who we serve and what we stand for.

We work with leaders who are at a tipping point.

They may be leading a $20–$50 million organisation, preparing for significant growth or navigating a complex cultural shift. But demographics alone do not define them.

They are leaders with the courage to look honestly at themselves.

Leaders who give a damn about their people and the planet.

Leaders who want to grow without losing their culture, their health or their humanity.

Leaders who are ready to move beyond managing the present and begin stewarding the future.

We are not here to work with everyone.

We are here for those who sense they are close to something greater - and are willing to do the deeper work required to reach it.

The Thread That Has Never Changed

UQ Power was not wrong.

Alexandra Joy was not a detour.

Each name belonged to a necessary chapter.

UQ Power named the possibility.

Alexandra Joy gave the work a face, a voice and a philosophy.

Beside Leaders Global names the way we walk and the future we are building.

The thread through all three has remained the same: helping people lead with greater consciousness, courage and care.

This next chapter simply makes that thread easier to see.

We are still here to make the intangible tangible.

To name the pattern a leader cannot see from inside the system.

To turn that insight into measurable change.

To grow strong leaders, healthy cultures and regenerative organisations.

And through it all, to remember our place:

Not above.

Not outside.

Beside.
